Interview Preparation

Visa Interview Preparation

The best preparation is truthful preparation.

Not every application involves an interview. Where one does — most commonly for the USA — preparation means understanding your own case well enough to explain it simply.

Why interviews matter

An interview gives the officer a chance to check that the person in front of them matches the application on file. It is usually short — a few minutes — and it is not a test you can revise for.

What helps is knowing your own plans clearly: why you are going, for how long, who is paying, and what you are returning to. What hurts is a rehearsed script that falls apart under a follow-up question.

We will never help you fabricate anything

We do not provide invented answers, false documents or scripted stories. Misrepresentation can carry serious, long-lasting consequences for future applications. Our preparation is built entirely on your real situation.

Common topics you should be ready to discuss

Purpose of travel

Where you are going and why, in one or two plain sentences.

Duration and dates

How long you plan to stay and when you intend to return.

Who is funding the trip

Your own funds, a sponsor, or a mix — and how that is evidenced.

Work or business

What you do, how long you have done it, and your leave arrangements.

Ties at home

Family, responsibilities, property or study that you are returning to.

Hosts and relationships

Who you are visiting, how you know them and where you will stay.

Previous travel

Where you have travelled before, and any previous refusals.

Answer truthfully

Clearly, consistently, and only what was asked.

How to answer

  • Answer the question that was asked, then stop.
  • Use plain, specific facts — dates, places, names.
  • If you do not know something, say so rather than guessing.
  • Keep your answers consistent with your application.
  • Stay calm and polite; nerves are normal and expected.
  • Make eye contact, listen fully, and do not interrupt.

Common mistakes

  • Memorised answers that do not match the real situation
  • Contradicting the application form or documents
  • Being unable to explain who is paying for the trip
  • Long, vague answers that avoid the actual question
  • Carrying a large, unsorted pile of documents

What to carry with you

Follow the official instructions for your appointment first. Beyond the required items, carry your supporting documents sorted into labelled sets so you can find anything in seconds.
