Study Visa Assessment: Checking Your Profile Before You Apply to Canada, the UK or Australia
A study visa is refused for reasons a tourist visa never faces: a weak SOP, a course that doesn't fit prior study, or funds that don't cover the full duration. A study-specific assessment checks exactly those.

Study visa refusals rarely come down to one big mistake. They come down to a file where the course choice, the funds and the SOP each tell a slightly different story. A study visa assessment exists to catch that mismatch before an officer does.
What a study visa assessment checks that a visitor visa assessment doesn't
- English test scores: IELTS or PTE, checked module by module against your intended institution's minimum, not just the overall band
- Genuine Student / Genuine Temporary Entrant answers: Australia's GS questions and Canada's study-plan coherence are scored on how well your course choice and career plan fit your academic history
- Funds for the full duration: tuition plus living costs for the whole program, not just the first semester, including Canada's GIC or the UK's 28-day financial-evidence rule where they apply
- Academic history: stream, board and percentage checked against the entry requirements of the course you have chosen
- SOP quality: whether your statement of purpose actually explains why this course, why this country, and why you will return or transition as declared
- Health and compliance: OSHC for Australia, the TB test and ATAS where required for the UK, medical exams where applicable
Why course fit matters more than people expect
An applicant with a commerce background applying for an unrelated postgraduate program, with no explanation, is one of the most common patterns behind a study permit refusal. The assessment checks your prior stream and level against your chosen course and flags the gap as a named concern, not a mystery you discover after a refusal.
The city-based cost estimator
Living costs for a student city in Toronto are not the same as a smaller Canadian city, and the same is true across the UK and Australia. The assessment estimates cost of living by the city you have chosen and checks your declared funds against that figure, rather than a single national number that under or over states what you actually need.
Common questions
Does a strong IELTS/PTE score guarantee my study visa?
No. It clears one requirement among several. Funds, SOP quality and course fit are assessed independently and can each still raise a concern.
What if my SOP was written by someone else?
The assessment checks your SOP against a quality checklist: coherent purpose, course fit, ties, return plan, regardless of who drafted it. An SOP that reads generic will be flagged either way.
Do I need a GIC for every Canadian study permit?
The GIC (Guaranteed Investment Certificate) applies to the Student Direct Stream and some province-specific routes, not every application. The assessment asks about your specific route before scoring funds.
Is the UK's 28-day rule checked automatically?
Yes, the assessment asks for your financial-evidence dates and flags it if your bank statements do not meet the UK's continuous 28-day holding requirement.
Run the study visa assessment before you finalise your SOP or apply. It takes about six minutes and shows exactly which category needs work.
